Hung Kang Teochew Restaurant at 28 North Canal Road - (Part II) Dad's 88th Birthday Celebration Birthday Set Menu $468

This period the restaurant is running a Hung Kang Birthday Set Menu $468 with no GST no service charge as seen here below :

Here is a close up view of the Birthday Set Menu in full.

Birthday Celebration Buns - the buns are filled with lotus paste my favorite second to red bean.

Four Varieties Cold Dish Combination - consists mainly of Jellyfish strips, Vegetarian Spring Roll, Black Pepper Chicken pieces, Pig trotters in gelatin (a traditional Teochew cold dish). I loved the Pig trotters in gelatin so much (as I did not get to eat them often) that I down 4 pieces in a row, thanks to my brother & his family who does not take pork.

Shark's Fin Soup with Fish Maw & Crab Meat - the Shark's fin used in this dish are the miniscule version, with the fish maw holding a more prominent position.

Barbeque Whole Suckling Pig - the skin is crispy and not at all oily, and tastes especially great when you dipped one side into the sweet sauce and the belachan chili on the other side. The meat is barbequed at the right temperature with the charcoal fire properly maintained to render the skin crisp & the meat tender.

Steamed Pomfret Teochew Style - this is the famous Signature Dish and is commonly found at the dinner table of most Teochew household during Chinese New Year. Much of the essence of the steamed Pomfret goes into the soup, so remember to slurp up the soup when tucking into this dish.

Crispy Prawns in Cereal & Mayonnaise - the chef at Hung Kang frees us from having to remove the Prawn shells by de-shelling these prawns before cooking it. The combination of cereals and mayonnaise is a winning mix though I half wish there weren't so many at the lunch table else I could have down another one.

Stewed Cabbage with Bailing Mushroom - Cabbage is by far one of the best vegetables for weight watchers as they are excellent tool to aid weight loss. The cabbage in this dish is stewed till the cabbage leaves are fully infused with the thick soup broth. The Bailing Mushroom used in this dish is indeed the dopplerganger for abalone, whilst the fatt choy bears close resemblance to the human hair.

Longevity Noodles - the noodles goes pretty well with pickled green chillies, is tangy and flavourful.

Yam Paste with Pumpkin - we normally get this traditional Teochew desserts at Teochew restaurants during Weddings, Chinese New Years & Birthday Celebrations. This dish is made with Yam, Pumpkin, gingko nuts in lard. I love this dessert so much I had two bowls!
