This is one new restaurant we just discovered in the Northern tip of Singapore after having moved from the East to the North 13 years ago - Rasa Istimewa Waterfront Restaurant at 6A Admiralty Road West, Woodlands Waterfront Park, Woodlands, S(757445). It is a halal certified restaurant serving selection of Muslim Seafood, Western Delights, Ikan Bakar and many more, and is very much popular among those staying in the north of Singapore.
The restaurant serves Set Menus :
Set Menu 1 & 2 (4 pax), Set Menu 3 (8 pax), Set Menu 4, 5, 6, 7 (10 pax), as well as ala carte dishes from their Ala Carte Menu.
We ordered the Set Menu 1 (4 pax) at $68++ consisting of :
Hotplate Seafood with Tofu & Egg - we settled for this as G2 was nursing a sore throat so this was a pretty safe choice. The chef is generous with the ingredients where the seafood used is found commonly also in the seafood soup.
Salted Egg Prawn (7 pieces) - the prawns are large tiger prawns there were 7 of them. I would recommend you request the chef to be a more generous with the salted egg yolk as these were pretty dry though the prawns are fresh. The tiger prawns were butterflied but not deshelled so you get the egg yolk flavor infused into the prawns through the butterflied cuts. However I would prefer the chef to deveined them as well to make it more palatable.
Seafood Soup - the soup is pretty ordinary with the chef simply throwing in the seafood ingredients into the soup heating it up and serving it. You may wish to give this dish a miss when you do visit.
This is the Fried Sliced Fish Nonya style in the Set. There is a sprightly tinge of spiciness due in part to the chili padi used in this recipe. But I would prefer the chef to give a little more gravy , make it more lemak and intense in terms of flavor by using more spices & herbs such as shallots, tumeric, garlic, lemongrass, assam.
