Soon Kee Teochew Porridge along Upper Thomson Road (I)

7 Dec 2011 my 85 year old Dad vomitted and was sent to SGH A&E by Grouch Two.  At the Observation Ward we bump into Mr Tan Ngoh Tee (陈五弟), the patriarch & head Chef at Soon Kee Teo Chew Porridge Stall along Upp Thomson Road, our favourite Saturday morning breakfast haunt. He developed abdomenal pains and doctor suspected appendicitis.

That Sat 10 Dec 2011 he was discharged, so we are back to our usual routine again. This Sat 17 Dec 2011 when we were there I had a chance to film Mr Tan Ngoh Tee in action, which is rare because he is always busy in the kitchen dishing out trays & trays of delectable dishes that keeps us addicted every Sat.

Mr Tan Ngoh Tee (陈五弟) currently age 76 started at age 36, to work for 40 years under his father - in - law Mr Teo Ah Teck & learnt how to cook Teochew Porridge. His wife Madam Tan Hong Lang serves as his second hand at the kitchen.

His 4 girls & 1 boy are all married and all but his second daughter helps out at his Soon Kee Porridge Stall.
Everyday about 3am - 4 am you can find the family at Jurong Fishery Port sussing out the latest catch of the day. For Soon Kee they Signature Specialty besides the Lor Bak, is their Teochew steamed fish, and if you want to get them nice & pipping hot you must head down to Soon Kee  8.30 am & 10.30 am when the fish are freshly streamed & served.
