Fu Xiang Kitchen at Food Junction, Sembawang Shopping Centre

Fu Xiang Kitchen started off as a hawker stall located at Bishan Bus Interchange specialising in Chinese & Asian Cuisine in the 1990's. Today Fu Xiang Kitchen has grown to be a popular food joint in well known Food Courts in your neighbourhood Shopping Mall.

This year Fu Xiang Kitchen newly opened their outlet at Food Junction at Sembawang Shopping Centre, offering their Signature Chicken Curry Claypot set. Here's what we ordered below.

The Nonya styled Chicken Curry Claypot really bowled me over. The curry is lemak (thick) with generous serving of tumeric and spices that lends it the aromatic flavour. I personally would cook my Nonya styled chicken curry no other way but this. And I'd add lots more candle nuts to lend it a nuttier flavour, and use freshly grated coconut to extract the coconut milk instead of commercial prepacked coconut milk.

The two pomfret tastes great, but the chef needs to be a little more generous with the sambal sauce, there just wasn't enough to dip the meat in.

La Pastificio at Sembawang Shopping Centre Food Junction

Bob & I visited this new stall at Sembawang Shopping Centre newly renovated Food Junction for dinner. They serve Pasta, Pizzas and anything Italian. Bob ordered the Spaghetti Aglio Aglio in Spinach Sauce. The Spaghetti tastes absolutely great with as slight tinge of nutmeg taste to it. On checking with the Staff - the Chef did not use nutmeg but garlic treated in a special way that gives it a taste close to that of nutmeg.

Part 2 Background - Soup Master at Food Junction, Sembawang Shopping Centre

Managed to conduct a phone interview with Moses Chong, one of the 3 shareholders of 牛车水老火汤 (Chinatown Lao Huo Tang )

Moses loves to cook at a very young age. When he was as little as Primary Three he had already learnt to cook for himself and his 3 brothers as his parents were busy working. Being the number three in a family of four boys, Moses is the only one to venture into the F&B Business.

At age 31, he started a food business selling desserts & Chinese Snacks ( Chinese Buns, Chee Cheong Fun, etc)  at a Toa Payoh Industrial Estate Canteen which eventually closed after the tenants moved out due to slowdown in business.

Moses then ventured into Interior Design Contractor business for about 10 years.  During this period his penchant for cooking did not wane but instead grew. He participated actively in cooking classes organised by the Community Centres  and picked up tips on cooking Western Cuisine & Chinese Cuisine particularly dishes like 一品锅 (Yi Ping Guo = a claypot dish with superior grade ingredients), 三杯鸡 (San Bei Ji = Chicken cooked in three different types of wine).

The Food Junction at Sembawang Shopping Centre finally opened after have closed for a while whilst undergoing renovation. Food Junction & Kopitiam sort of did a musical chair to each other, with Kopitiam ending their lease at Sembawang Shopping Centre and moving over to North Point, and Food Junction ending theirs at North Point and moving on to Sembawang Shopping Centre.

With the nearby Canberra Condo Development and One Nautical Condo Units coming up in the near future, Food Junction looks set to welcome these new residents to a tasteful meal at Sembawang Shopping Centre.

Bob & I went to explore Food Junction @ Sembawang Shopping Centre Level 2 this past week and come upon SOUP MASTER that serves up really great soup ! Will explore about its humble beginnings in my future postings.

Meanwhile check out SOUP MASTER's soup fare ...................

Prosperous Kitchen at Sembawang Shopping Centre Part 1

14 Dec 2011 is Grouch Two's actual Birthday. She invited me & Bob, & Dad, together with Stanley for Ala Carte Buffet Dinner at one of our usual buffet haunts at Prosperous Kitchen, Sembawang Shopping Centre.

The portions  are  just right, not too little nor too much. We specially love the Red Tilapia Fried Fish, the Prawns  with Pumpkin Sauce, the Gong Bao Chicken, Thai Chicken Fillet, Sambal Kang Kong.

The Chef use special Thai style chilli sauce  and bits of finely chopped bunga kantan (pink ginger bud)

New York New York at Sembawang Shopping Centre

 Juicy Pork Ribs  S$19.90

Succulent Roasted Chicken with spices S$18.90 (Free because of the 1 for 1 offer coupon)

Last night Bob & I used up the last coupon from New York New York@ Sembawang Shopping Centre by spending it on the BBQ Pork Ribs & the Roasted chicken. The pork ribs were juicy  and baked to perfection. The serving is just nice so much so that we finished most of  it leaving just a morsel for JOrdan. I had asked to change the wedges potatoes for unsalted french fries as I absolutely hated wedge potatoes. The chefs were happy to oblige.

The roast chicken was marinated in several spices, and roasted just nicely and not over done. Even when you cut through the meat, the meat juices just oozes out of the cut.   The sauce that accompanied the chicken taste a little bit like pepper, a tat sweet, and pleasant to the taste, not too salty.

JOrdan had the best deal, because there were so much leftovers even to fill his bowl.

River JOrdan and JOrdan being groovy on the disco floor !
