Part 3 Reunion Dinner - Ban Heng at Boon Keng

One of the must have dish eaten during Chinese New Year Reunion Dinners is the whole fish. The set menu we ordered comes with a whole Pomfret. Among the Teochews the Pomfret is the favourite choice. During Chinese New Year one whole  Pomfret can go as high as $80. Teochew styled steaming involve using very simple ingredients such as plum, slices of salted vegetable, toufu, tomatoes, ginger, steam on medium fire for 10-15 minutes.

The prawns here look very ordinary, but they taste really  sweet ! Steamed prawns brings out the original sweetness of the prawn meat. Of late, prawns are touted to be good for your health as they contain Omega. So I was sure to load up on my Omega by downing 2 prawns!.

I am never a fan of Lotus leaf rice as they use glutinous rice, and I never liked eating glutinous rice. But this Lotus leaf rice from Ban Heng really bowls me over. The Chef uses ingredients such as dried shrimp, Chinese mushrooms, meat, laden with spices, steamed with the glutinous rice in the Lotus leaf where the rice soaks up the flavours of the spices & ingredients, without being salty, lending a savoury taste. Fantastically appetising!
