The Corner Place Korean BBQ at Marina Square Level 4 - The Beginnings The Ambience The Menu The Signatures

The Background

35-year-old MBA Holder with a Finance, Estate Valuation background turned Restaurateur Mr Chris Chun (above) is the second generation of Koreans who emigrated to The Outback in the 1990's. Chris's maternal aunt desiring to preserve the Korean culture and its unique Cuisine, opened a chain of Korean restaurants in Australia as well as New Zealand.

Back in his teenage years he grew up watching his parents & maternal aunt grew the family F&B business in Australia & New Zealand. At its peak the family restaurant chain grew to more than 40 outlets throughout Australia & New Zealand. This is not the first time that Chris dabbled in the F&B Industry. When he was 21, he owned his first very own restaurant serving European Cuisine.

Chris realise there is great potential for Korean Cuisine here in Singapore seeing that the locals here are very receptive towards discovering and embracing Korean culture as a result mainly of the media airing of popular Korean TV Dramas serials that had captivated the hearts of many Singaporeans here. He set up The Corner Place Korean BBQ to provide authentic traditional Korean Cuisine to the locals here.

Having grown up in Australia with him completing his MBA from New Zealand, Chris gets his meat chilled by the container load monthly from Australia & New Zealand as he believes these two countries produce really good decent beef.

Jap Che - this is one of my favourite buffet dish made with Ja Jang (Korean Black Bean Sauce) that is so very appetising

Deep Fried Chicken Wings - these wings fly off the warmer in a jiffy as they are freshly fried and served hot, tastes absolutely juicy on the inside & crispy on the outside.

These are the accompaniments for the Coral Lettuce wrap.

The Drinks Station comes with a wide selection to quench your thirst after a hearty BBQ meal.

Cooked Food Section - consists of a selection of food cooked fresh at the kitchen daily. They range from Crackers, Kimchi Fried Rice,  Korean Spicy Rice Cakes, Steamed Egg.

Crackers - these are crispy & taste great with the chili sauce.

Kimchi Fried Rice - the rice are deliciously fried with a generous Kimchi flavor.

La Chao Nian Gao (Korean Spicy Rice Cakes) - was glad the rice cakes are not that too spicy but has that chewy texture.

Steamed Egg - great soft smooth melt in your mouth texture.

Raw Food Section I - has a wide selection of meats & poultry :
  • Pork, Pork Belly
  • Bacon, Pork Collar

There is also freshly cut juicy Water Melon to quench your thirst.

The stir fry French Beans, Tau Gay made great accompaniment to the various strong flavor meats.

Coral Lettuce - is called coral lettuce due to its tightly crinkled leave edges bearing close resemblance to corals, comes in red & green varieties, with a mildly bitter flavor. The coral lettuce are usually used in Korean Cuisine to make Ssam Bap (Korean Lettuce Wraps) where you wrap pieces of galbi (shortribs) or bulgogi (ribeye meat) with the ssamjang paste into a bundle together with the garlic & hot pepper slices and eaten.
