Soon Kee Teochew Porridge Stall along Upp Thomson Road

Every Saturday morning, Bob & I,  together with Grouch Two & Stanley would make our weekly pilgrimage to our favourite Soon Kee Teochew porridge stall along Upper Thomson Road.

The food is cooked daily by the patriach the elderly Mr Tan, with the only son serving the food into little plates. The price is very reasonable. The food is cooked fresh daily, and sold out by about 2pm daily. They rest on Sundays.

If you wish to order the fish, best times would be about 8.45 am and about 10.30 am when they just emerged from the kitchen.

A simple breakfast of about 6 dishes for 4 pax would set us back by about S$18 - S$19

Kai Lan Stir Fry with Big Prawns (S$12)

Song Kee Seafood Cooked Food Stall is operated by this lovely chef whose cooking methods reminds me of Mum's cooking, especially her Stir Fry Kai Lan with Big Prawns.

Whenever I dine at her stall it gives me a nostalgic feel as if my mum is still alive and cooking for me.
She serves humble but home-cooked fare and her prices are very reasonable. You can find her at Tanglin Halt Market Food Centre (Block 48A, Tanglin Halt Road) most evenings except every alternate Wednesdays when she takes a break.

Thai Food at Joe's Kitchen Thai Cuisine

Thai Mango Salad

Thai Green Chicken Curry

Garlic Kang Kong

This is the humble homely dinner Bob & I had one weekday evening at Joe's Kitchen, Alexandra Village.

This is a restaurant open by Thai Chef Joe & his Singaporean Chinese wife. Joe is extremely generous with his ingredients & his portions. Bob & I especially adore his Mango salad. Because Joe is Thai, a lot of his ingredients he uses are true to the Thai taste.

Everything we are here we never fail to indulge in the Thai Green Curry Chicken. Now Joe use only  fresh chicken meat, cooked to the perfect temperature and heat, and served warm. The gravy from his Thai Green Chicken Curry is very lemak.

Soon Kee Wanton Mee at Pek Kio (Cambridge ) Market Food Centre

This wanton noodle was introduced to me by Grouch Two. She literally eats at the stall faithfully every Sunday after dropping Dad off  at his Teochew church - Thomson Baptist Church.

So one Sunday we followed Grouch Two to this stall at Pek Kio (Cambridge)  Market Food Centre. The noodles served are springy, cooked to the right temperature & consistency.

Durian - The King of fruits

Durians - you either love them or hate them. For most locals here in Singapore, they are known as the King of fruits. Generally I go for Mao Shan Wang, Sultan Durian, D24. Best eaten when you pry the shells yourself.
Once they are packed in Styrofoam boxes the smell wears out, the fruits when left at room temp for too long may become soggy.

Korean Food at www.jushinjung.com

Ju Shin Jung is a charcoal Korean BBQ Restaurant situated right opposite the Haw Par Villa in the Western part of Singapore. This is a restaurant famous for its Korean fare, frequented by a lot of MediaCorp Celebs.
Bob & I went there on a week day evening after work and tried out their Korean Charcoal BBQ.
We tried out their beef & chicken dinner set.

The serving is  just nice. The beautiful Filipino waitress cum server helped us to cook the beef & chicken meat on the grilller. The meat is lightly marinated & sliced thinly so that it cooks faster. The amazing thing is that there is no smoke at all !

The set is served with many a tiny plates of side dishes. I absolutely loved the pumpkin  soup so much I complimented the chef & the server came up with a bigger bowl of the pumpkin soup for me. Talk about delighting your customer! Wow !
