1942 Alfresco@Changi is the first war themed restaurants operated by CEO Gerard Fang Tian Huat with a concept of Restaurant-Museum-Bar-Boutique. The entire decor & furnishing are pretty much war themed with many wartime lookalike paraphernalia displayed as artefacts for sale at the restaurant.
The Beginnings
CEO Gerard Fang Tian Huat started 1942 Alfresco@Changi a year ago, during which he applied and received approval for the licence to operate Singapore's first World War II themed restaurant. He acquired the right space in 30, Cosford Road at Changi that has the historical significance of World War II attached to it at the same time. The construction was completed back in Dec 2013 & 1942 Alfresco@Changi opens with a restaurant-museum-bistro-bar concept.
The Background
CEO Gerard Fang, at only 42 years old, is already a 20 year-old veteran in the F&B industry, having worked in HPL under Hard Rock Cafe group more than 20 years ago. Gerard was also involved in Ergo's Arabic Restaurant in Oasis, Kallang.
He left the F&B industry to form his own Venture Capitalist firm, armed with his extensive experience in Operations, Business Development, Marketing & PR. Gerard Fang has this philosophy towards hiring - all his businesses hire only local Singaporeans, he believes in giving local Singaporeans a good opportunity to progress and grow with him in his businesses.

Positioning - 1942 Alfresco@Changi aims to provide 5-Star dining in a bistro environment at bistro prices.
Expansion plans - Pitstop under the AGAlliance Group is tasked to create 6 theme restaurants that first originated in Singapore that will form the basis of flagship stores that is poised to expand into Asia & nearby regions such as Darwin, Australia, Philippines, Vietnam. Pitstop aims to build a series of World War, World War II & war theme restaurants based on the wartime experiences of the countries they are based in. So for a war-themed restaurant in Singapore, it is based on the Fall of Singapore & the Japanese Occupation of Singapore in 1943, for war-themed restaurant based in the Philippines, it will be based on the conflict of the Philippines with the Japanese & the Japanese Occupation of the Philippines in 1943 during World War II, and for the theme restaurant in Darwin it will be based on the Darwin Air Raids by the Japanese on 19 February 1942 (Ref:www.awm.gov.au/encyclopedia/air_raids/darwin), as for Vietnam it would be based on the Vietnam War and the Japanese Occupation of Vietnam in 1940 & its duration during World War II. 1942 is already trademarked.
Apart from launching 1942 Alfresco@Changi in the East, Gerard is currently preparing for the opening of Betty's - an American dining concept to be operating in The Grandstand, Turf City by the end of 2014. Gerard has another brand he is preparing as well - Rachel's which is a yogabar.
Menu Planning - Currently menu planning is done by Executive Chef Francis Tan, who helms the kitchen at 1942 Alfresco@Changi. The menu here is renewed every six months, with menu items totalling more than 50, spread over more than 10 Categories. The Cuisine here is typically Western Cuisine, as well as Asian Fusion Cuisine with strong British-American influences. The restaurant's kitchen act as the central kitchen where preparation of sauces, marinates, dressings, meats take place.
