The 1942 Alfresco@Changi Concept
1942 Alfresco@Changi is the first war themed restaurants operated by CEO Gerard Fang Tian Huat with a concept of Restaurant-Museum-Bar-Boutique. The entire decor & furnishing are pretty much war themed with many wartime lookalike paraphernalia displayed as artefacts for sale at the restaurant.
1942 Alfresco@Changi bears a restaurant-retail- boutique-bar concept, with a war museum in tow. The restaurant display & decor mimics that of the 1940's pre & post-war and has many of the 1940's pre & post-war paraphernalia & relics lookalikes. It's like stepping into a different era and time, back into a page in history, as if you were transported back to the 1940's.
A pink Vespa adorns the side wall of the main entrance to 1942 Alfresco@Changi as if to welcome all guests to party here.
Guarding the entrance of 1942 Alfresco@Changi is this British Army Soldier, a timely reminder of the painful effect of war in the 1940's and the British army's involvement in it.
This is the Bar Counter facing the glass door main entrance to 1942 Alfresco @Changi where the resident mixologist creates a unique blend of cocktail flavors with the selection of gin, bourbon, brandy, vodka, whisky, V.S.O.P., Hennessy, Johnny Walker, Chivas Regal available to pair with your finger food & quench your thirsty palate.
Pretty much every vintage paraphernalia you see here on display at and around the Bar Counter are on sale, ranging from the signages to sheaths to gramophones.
But be careful that you do not pilfer, because there is an armed female Kempeitai stationed in front of the shelf facing the Bar Counter to watch over would be shoplifters.
Another pair of eyes guards the restaurant carefully.
Retail Boutique
The retail boutique markets mainly war theme goods ranging from jackets, to vintage radio, army helmets, to khaki shirts.
Air Con Indoor Restaurant Dining Area
Al fresco Dining Area
At the al fresco dining area, old style wooden chairs pair with wooden table to give the outdoor ambience a rustic vintage look. The tentage enveloping each dining table helps to give respite to the scorching heat in the day and shelter from the rain, ensuring every diner enjoys their visit here at 1942 Alfresco @Changi.
Six concrete slabs line the border of the al fresco area giving a grim account of the history of Singapore during the period before & after the Fall of Singapore as well as the Japan Occupation & the End of The Japanese Occupation.
War Museum
The War Museum at the right of the restaurant showcases the various pre-war & post-war relics lookalike in the 1940's.
Performance Stage
Another section of the al fresco dining area is the performance stage complete with reclining chairs and barrel tables for diners to enjoy their cocktails & mocktails whilst listening to 1942 Alfresco@Changi's in house star performer Mr Alan Sandosham croon out nostalgic oldies & contemporary songs.
