Akatombo 赤とんぼ at Marina Bay Link Mall B2-03, S(018984) - The Beginning The Ambience

The Beginning
Akatombo 赤とんぼ means Red Dragonfly in Japanese. Akatombo 赤とんぼ is a Japanese all day dining concept located at Marina Bay Link Mall, B2-03, offering typically Japanese inspired Cuisine. The restaurant serves Nabe, Sushi, Oju, Curry & Omu Rice, Teishoku, Bento, Spaghetti, Sukiyaki.

Akatombo 赤とんぼ opens its first new Singapore outlet at Marina Bay Link Mall & is managed by D&N Singapore, part of the parent company Doutor Nichires Holdings Co., Ltd. in Japan. D&N Singapore also operates Doutor, Hoshino Coffee, Japanese-style spaghetti restaurant chain Yomenya Goemon and Chinese restaurant chain The Asian Kitchen here.

The parent company Doutor Nichires Holdings Co., Ltd. engages in the management of cafes and restaurants in Japan. It is also involved in the manufacture and sale of bread and pastry products, processing and sale of roasted coffee; and import, export, purchase & sale of foods. The company was founded in 2007 and is headquartered in Tokyo, Japan.

The Ambience
The restaurant is tucked away in the Basement Two of Marina Bay Link Mall and has a seating capacity of more than 90 pax during its lunch time peak hour. Prominently displayed right beside the Akatombo 赤とんぼ name is the Red Dragonfly symbol of which Akatombo is named after.

Beautifully displayed is the life-size replicas of the selection of dishes served on the Akatombo        赤とんぼ menu.

The Akatombo 赤とんぼ kitchen is helmed by both local Executive Chef & Operations Manager Kueh Kwang Siew together with Japanese Chef Hirai Shintaro from Japan (who visits Singapore branch regularly).

The Akatombo 赤とんぼ kitchen adopts an open kitchen concept where diners can observe the chefs in action live from the see-through glass panels separating them from the kitchen area.

Decorating the dining area at Akatombo              赤とんぼ are large cylindrical lampshades with beautiful geometrical designs and colors which fold like umbrellas in order to change their shape. These large lampshades are masterpiece of Hiyoshiya - Kyoto based manufacturer of traditional Japanese umbrellas.

The centrepiece is the buffet island table which displays a wide selection of buffet items including edamame, fresh lettuce, cherry tomatoes, orange slices, carrot strips, cucumber, and many more.

The decor is of Japanese theme with geometrical designs lining the mirrors mounted throughout the entire restaurant wall. The key color scheme of Akatombo 赤とんぼ is bright yellow & light brown.

Long lounge cushioned sofa lines the entire perimeter stretch of the restaurant wall beneath the wall mirrors and pairs well with the bright yellow acrylic square table tops. Akatombo 赤とんぼ, like most Japanese restaurants, are typically partitioned into various sections to provide some kind of privacy to the diners despite the close proximity of the tables.

Whilst the large cylindrical lampshades over hang the Buffet island table, round white unpatterned spherical lamps provide cozy lighting to diners sitting in the main dining sections.
