Flavour Flings at 121 Hougang Ave 1 #01-1348 S(530121) - The Beginnings Co-Founder Delphine Neo


The Introduction 
Flavour Flings located at 121, Hougang Ave 1 #01-1348 is a new cafe in the heartland of North Eastern part of Singapore serving French  inspired cuisine such as Mr Croque & Croque Madame, Benedict's & Florentine as well as American inspired cuisine such as Beef Chili Cheese Fries & Triple Cheese Pasta & Pancakes.  
Delphine Neo, 31, became a Muslim when she got married 3 years ago to her husband Mohd Firdaus. Both husband & wife love cafe-hopping but could not find decent halal cafes to dine in Hougang where they grew up in. So they decided to open a cafe two & a half months ago (in Oct 2014) in Hougang Avenue 1, serving food without pork, using halal food supplier suitable for the growing cafe crowd. And they decided to call it Flavour Flings.

The kitchen is helmed by Co-Founder Chef Shawn Koh, 27, who founded Flavour Flings with old time friend Delphine Neo & her elder sister Neo Sze Jie. Flavour Flings opens weekdays 11 am to 9 pm & weekends from 9am to 9pm, & is closed on Tuesdays.  

The Beginning of Flavour Flings 
Co-Founders Delphine Neo, Shawn Koh & Neo Sze Jie started Flavour Flings on 3 Oct 2014 in Blk 121, Hougang Avenue 1. Co-Founder & Chef Shawn Koh resides in Sengkang & so does the rest in Hougang so naturally they choose a heartland location close to home. As cafe goers they try to avoid town areas as it can be really crowded on weekends. Flavour Flings is so named as all the 3 partners love it. 
Positioning of Flavour Flings 
Flavour Flings is an All Day Brunch Cafe that serves pasta, sandwich, pancakes & desserts. This is a brand the 3 partners started themselves.
Background & Experience 
Delphine Neo is 31, from the finance banking industry. Though Delphine Neo does not come from the F&B industry, she loves to cook at home & enjoys cafe hopping especially after she got married to Mohd Firdaus. Delphine Neo became a Muslim when she got married. She had knew Chef Shawn Koh as a long time friend & visited him often when he interns at various cafes & restaurants. Her elder sister Neo Shi Jie, 34, loves cafe hopping as well. 
Delphine & her 2 partners hope to break even within a year after putting a 5 figure sum into Flavour Flings, currently they are on a 2 year lease from the landlord at Hougang Avenue 1. 

Opening Hours 
Flavour Flings is opened from 11am to 9pm  on weekdays, & 9am to 9pm on Weekends & is closed on Tuesdays.

Roles at Flavour Flings 
At Flavour Flings, food inventory & kitchen supplies are managed by Executive Chef Shawn Koh, Delphine Neo handles PR, Social Media Marketing, Communications & Business Planning at Flavour Flings whilst sister Neo Sze Jie is responsible for the HR & Admin & Marketing.
Menu Planning 
Currently Executive Chef Shawn Koh takes care of the menu planning. To date there are more than 30 items in the Flavour Flings Menu 2015.

The Kitchen 
The kitchen at Hougang Avenue 1 acts as the Central kitchen where all food are prepared. It is helmed by Executive Chef & Co-Founder Shawn Koh & his Sous Chef. 
Food ingredients 
Food ingredients are all halal & are sourced locally using halal suppliers. Delphine Neo shared that the cafe gets its bread from suppliers, uses smoked salmon & sausages on the All Day Brunch Menu. For Christmas & other special holiday seasons the cafe serves up chicken dishes & uses frozen halal chicken from ZAC Butchery. 
How does Flavour Flings differ from the rest ?
  • Flavour Fling Co-Founder Delphine Neo shared that the cafe strives to maintain high standards for food ingredients used, using  only premium Brioche bread (buttery french bread) for their Egg's Benedict, Country dough for their other dishes, as well as good grade Truffle honey in their dishes.
  • A winning formula for Flavour Flings is to have a second intake Culinary Institute Of America Graduate as its Executive Chef & Co-Founder Shawn Koh - who is the brain behind the delightfully fabulous dishes you see here at Flavour Flings.
  • Being one of the few cafes with menu that caters to the Muslim cafe lovers, Flavour Flings is poised to be one of the new cafe brands that will strike a chord with cafe goers who loved a good Egg's Benedict, Pasta, Pancakes, & great Coffee.
