Farrer Primary School Reunion for Class of 1975 - 1980
It seems like just yesterday that the Graduating Class of 1980 of Farrer Primary School just bid their farewell, and then after a cool 31 years we were united again at our Varsity Court Function Room.
Evelyn Wee, married to Eng Ngee, both from the same class catered Muslim food from one of her friends, and I must say the spread is very tantalising !

Cooking up a storm for Chinese New Year Reunion 2012 !
Bob had brought me to the market on Sat morning 22 Jan 2011 to collect the Choo Chiang Food Stall's famous Roast Pork & Char Siew, each 0.5kg. Then I had to buy the braised duck from my favourite duck stall at the Chong Pang market.
After gettting my final purchase, it's heading off for home to prepare for Sunday's reunion dinner.
Thought it better to use Ziplog bags to bag & marinate the meats so I had Bob drop me off at Giant's Supermarket to buy some medium & large size Ziplog bags.
Spent the whole day of Sunday 23 Jan 2011 preparing the Reunion Dinner at my kitchen. Thawed the fish, chicken, scallop, prawns in their original bags, immersed in a basin of tap water.
Marinated the chicken using : Hong Cao Lu 红糙露, sesame seed oil, Shao Xing Hua Diao Jiu (Shao Xing Rice Wine ) 绍兴花雕酒, a fresh egg, a tablespoon of Marmite, placed the chicken pieces into a Ziplog bag & into the fridge it goes.
For the Scallops : I use just the Hong Chau Lu 红糙露, Shao Xing Hua Diao Jiu (Shao Xing Rice Wine ) 绍兴花雕酒.
For the prawns : I use Hong Chau Lu 红糙露, Shao Xing Hua Diao Jiu (Shao Xing Rice Wine ) 绍兴花雕酒.
For the fish : I use Hong Chau Lu 红糙露, Shao Xing Hua Diao Jiu 绍兴花雕酒.
Meanwhile about an hour before we set off for my MIL's home, I steam the braised duck on low fire for 1 hour so that the meat will turn out tender & succulent.
Feast your eyes on my Reunion Dinner Spread :
It is a must for all Chinese families to have fish every REunion Dinner table as fish signifies abundance every year 年年有鱼 (余)

Leeks 笋 are also served as their pronounciation in Chinese means : << year running smoothly = 顺顺利利>>, and also leek 笋 in Chinese dialect is pronounced similiar to 算 meaning there would be a lot of money to count 算.

Chinese New Year Festive Adventures at Takashimaya Basement Atrium
Applied leave to go to Chinatown to capture some of the Chinese New Year spirit and to soak in the ambivalent atmosphere. This year happens to be the Year of the Dragon - the fifth animal in the Chinese Zodiac.
Technically speaking the real dragon do not exist in real life unlike its other Chinese Zodiac friends : the Mouse, the Ox, the Tiger, the Rabbit, the Snake, the Horse, the Goat, the Monkey, the Pig, the Dog.
This Sambal Prawn (Hae Bee) Roll from Kedai Kue Kue tastes delicious!
I also get to taste their Almond Cookies - not too sweet and it does have almond flavour which is not too intense but light !

Wei Zhong Qi Prawn Noodle at Alexandra Village Food Centre
What makes a Prawn Noodle a draw to the patrons ?
The ingredients : Fresh ingredients, superb chilli sauce, lots of lard, lots of deep fried shallots, lots of onions, freshly boiled prawns, a sweet smile, simple politeness, a true conscience, a cheerful heart.
The last ingredient is the most important for it is absolutely impossible to cook up anything nice with a lousy & sad & bitter heart.
Our lady Chef above has all the essential ingredients, that is why I am a sucker that regularly patronises her stall on a weekday.
Bee Cheng Hiang 美珍香 Bak Kwa for Chinese New Year
My dear Mom in law wanted us to get Bee Cheng Hiang 美珍香 Bak Kwa for Chinese New Year.
Since we put up at Sembawang naturally we head off to Senoko South where 美珍香 Bee Cheng Hiang factory is located. As usual every Chinese New Year season, the food factories up in Woodlands Senoko area will conduct open house factory sales to attract the Chinese New Year crowds.
So I took the opportunity to film what it's like at a typical factory outlet Chinese New Year Sale. So feast your eyes !

After tucking into the Ma Puo Dou Foo, realise the Chef put it a wee bit of salt & chilli oil - it's a tad salty & oily. After 6- 7 mouthfuls, I call it a day -- disaster ! Well not every day is my day, and it's not everytime I hit jackpot. Not every Chef is a gem. Some really need to give a serious thought towards getting honest feedback from their patrons, else that might be the last you see of them,

They are very rich with quality ingredients, and used crushed almonds some of them bite sizes - absoltely fantastic superb taste, so much so I begged Siew Fern to sell me 5 bottles, and even offered to help sell them on my blogs. Alas, her family only made it for personal consumption.

Dinner at S99 Seafood at Chong Pang City, Sembawang
This is the week exactly 7 days before the Chinese New Year, Bob & I decided to make our way to Chong Pang City to order the Choo Chiang Roast Pork (0.5kg) & Char Siew (0.5kg) for our Reunion at my dear MIL place coming Sunday 22 Jan 2012.
Since we were already at Chong Pang City we stopped at our pit stop S99 for a quick meal.
Before we place our order, I notice quite a number of patrons were enjoying the dishes. So I took the chance to capture the dishes for your viewing .
Chicken Salad Special

Bob & I settled for the San Pei Ji 三杯鸡 (Three Cup Chicken) which literally means chicken cooked with three flavour, and based on the taste : leeks of soya sauce, rice wine, sesame seed oil. The Chef is generous with garlic, and the whole claypot is full of garlic cloves, which when nicely stewed gives the chicken a sweet garlicky taste.

Chicken Rice fix at Lee Loon Cooked Food @ 726 Clementi West St 2
A cool evening can sometimes cause your body to burn more fats, and that can render one absolutely hungry.
So last evening 9 Jan 2012 off we go to West Coast : Clementi West St 2 Blk 726 - Mr Tan's Lee Loon Cooked Food stall to get our Chicken Rice fix. We were so hungry we ordered extra bowl of rice.
The meat is tender cooked just right texture, not too hard, the skin is silky and glides down your throat, drizzled with a special secret sauce - which smells highly suspicious of sesame seed oil, mustard, plum sauce mix, and eaten with blended ginger in sesame oil --> the taste is superbly delectable ! I could eat a whole chicken on my own.
I chose to go the SamSui Way : lots of ginger , and more ginger .....
